A teenage motorist drove into a snowbank after crossing into an oncoming lane in Holbrook early Saturday, overturning his vehicle into a tree, Suffolk police said.

The unidentified 18-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a 2007 Honda sport utility vehicle heading northbound on Patchogue-Holbrook Road, south of Broadway Avenue, shortly before 2:30 a.m. when he entered the southbound lane, hit the snow and overturned, police said.

The driver, who was not injured, and a 16-year-old female passenger, escaped from the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived. The passenger was sent to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with minor injuries.
