Two Hampton Bays teenagers were arrested and charged as participants in a rash of graffiti mischief appearing since this summer in Hampton Bays and East Quogue, police said Tuesday.

Trevor Craker and Cody McGovern, both 17, were charged with criminal mischief, making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments, police said.

A Southampton Town police officer saw Craker and McGovern spray painting at the Coliseum Night Club building about 10:30 p.m. Friday, police said. After a chase on foot, the Southampton officer and a state police officer arrested the two teens, police said.

Police said Craker and McGovern are connected to 10 additional graffiti acts, and detectives are continuing the investigation.

Both teens were taken to Southampton Justice Court and released on their own recognizance.

Since July, Southampton police said there have been about 25 instances of graffiti "tag" signings, mostly in black paint, sprayed on private property, as well as on public places such as traffic signs and utility buildings.
