Cops: Teens rob, beat man in Wantagh and vandalize his car
They pulled the victim from his car in the parking lot at Wantagh High School Monday night and threatened to damage it if he didn't cough up some cash, police said. Then one of the robbers allegedly made the teen drive to an ATM, withdraw money and hand it over.
But once the two robbers, also teens, got the cash from their 19-year-old victim, they decided to beat the teen and vandalize his car anyway, Nassau police said.
Officers arrested two Wantagh teens Tuesday for the robbery and assault, which sent the victim to Nassau University Medical Center with a broken arm and bruises, according to police.
Brendan Scheiner, 17, of Cornelius Avenue, and Kosmos Trilivas, 17, of Interlake Drive, are charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. They were scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said the incident took place at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, when the two teens "acted in concert" to rob the victim. It was unclear if the two knew the victim.
Police said the 19-year-old was sitting in his car in the parking lot at the school when the teens pulled him from the vehicle and threatened to damage it if they didn't get cash.
One of the teens got into the passenger seat and made the 19-year-old drive him to an ATM. The victim withdrew cash and surrendered it.
The two teens then vandalized the car with their fists and feet, breaking the windshield and kicking the driver's side. They also beat the victim.
The victim's parents called Nassau police.
