A robber tried to hold up one bank in Mastic Monday and failed before successfully robbing a Center Moriches bank 10 minutes later, Suffolk police said.

The suspect, wearing a dark jacket and camouflage pants, handed a note demanding cash to a teller at the HSBC on Montauk Highway in Mastic about 1:25 p.m., police said.

But he ran away without getting any cash, police said.

At 1:35 p.m., a robber of the same description went to Chase bank on Main Street in Center Moriches and got away with cash, police said.

He appeared to be in his 20s, with a thin build and about 5 feet, 8 inches tall to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, police said.
