Rims, tires stolen off new cars in dealership lot, cops say
Police were searching for the thieves who took off with rims and tires from a Riverhead car dealership Sunday morning, Riverhead Town police said.
A routine patrol at 1:37 a.m. found three new 2015 Honda Accords on blocks with their tires and rims removed at Apple Honda, 1375 Old Country Rd., police said.
Police believe the crime may have been interrupted by the patrol because four tires and rims were next to one of the vehicles, according to the news release.
A representative of Apple Honda was contacted and estimated the total value of the tires and rims at $5,000, police said. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
A message left for Apple Honda Sunday morning was not immediately returned.
