Two motorists were critically injured Tuesday morning in a collision in Melville, Suffolk County police said.

Thomas Emberton, 89, of Huntington, was driving north on Route 110 when his 1997 Toyota collided with the 2007 Nissan driven by Joan Goldstein, 77, of East Northport, police said. Goldstein was driving south on Route 110 and making a left turn onto Pinelawn Road, police said.

Melville Rescue took Emberton to Plainview Hospital and took Goldstein to Huntington Hospital, police said.

The road was reopened at 11:48 a.m., police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the crash investigation was continuing, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Second Squad of the Suffolk County Police Department at 631-854-8252.
