Cops: Two men arrested after fleeing car break-in at LIRR station

Two Huntington Station men were arrested Thursday morning after they broke into a car parked at the Huntington LIRR station, eluded police in their getaway car, then tried to escape on foot at a different LIRR station, Suffolk police said.

Police patrolling the Huntington parking lot at 8:10 a.m. saw Matthew Moore, 34, rifling through a car that had its window broken, police said. As police neared, Moore jumped into the driver's seat of a 1995 Buick, where police said Anthony Pabon, 30, was waiting on the passenger side. The two drove away, eluding police, who chased them in an unmarked car. Ten minutes later, other officers saw the pair at the Greenlawn LIRR station, police said.

The two began running from police, but both were caught, police said.

Moore was arrested at 8:30 a.m. Police used a canine to track down Pabon who was found hiding behind a building nearby on Broadway, said Det. Sgt. Richard Auspaker of the Second Squad. Pabon was arrested at about 9:10 a.m.

Both Moore and Pabon were charged with third-degree criminal mischief, police said. Moore was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property for credit cards he had, police said. Moore did not steal anything from the car in Huntington Station, police said.

Moore and Pabon are being held at the Second Precinct, and are scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
