Cops: Two officers save suicidal woman on Robert Moses bridge
Two Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers prevented a woman from jumping off the Robert Moses Causeway Bridge in West Islip Monday, police said.
Officers Don Lettieri and Kevin Krause were on patrol near the bridge about 11 a.m. when a passerby notified them that a woman was at the bridge.
At about the same time, police said, a family member of the woman notified them that she posted on Facebook her plans to commit suicide at the bridge.
When Lettieri and Krause got to the bridge, they found the woman's car, and the woman attempting to climb over the bridge wall, according to a news release.
The officers grabbed her and pulled her to safety, the release said.
Police said the woman, 43, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.
