Suffolk police Monday corrected the name and age of a man found lying in a Bay Shore street Friday after he was struck by a car.

Marlo Garcia Cabellero, 33, of Bay Shore, was seriously injured New Year's Day when a car hit him and left the scene, police said.

Police originally identified the victim as Marlon Garcia, 28, of Bay Shore. In a Monday afternoon news release, police did not say why they initially released the incorrect name and age of the victim.

The car and the driver have not been found.

Cabellero was found at 6:20 a.m. Friday at Pine Aire Drive and Heckscher Avenue in Bay Shore. It was not known how long he was lying there, police said.

The victim suffered hypothermia, broken ribs and internal bleeding, police said, and was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477 or the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
