A West Babylon man lost part of his leg when it became stuck in a wood chipper machine Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
Robert Fischer, 72, was using the wood chipper outside his home on 15th Street when his right leg got caught in the machine about 11:55 a.m., police said.
Fischer’s son freed him from the machine, but he suffered a “partial leg amputation,” police said.
Fischer was transported by East Farmingdale Fire Department ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said. Fischer’s condition was not immediately available.
Police impounded the wood chipper to perform a safety check and notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, police said.
