A Westhampton man who overcorrected his car after he fell asleep behind the wheel flipped the vehicle early Sunday, causing minor injuries to himself and his passenger, Suffolk County police said.

Andrew Maceranka, 24, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala east on Sunrise Highway between Exits 60 and 61 in East Moriches at 1 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep, police said. When he woke up, he overcorrected and flipped his car into a grove of trees, police said.

Maceranka and his male passenger suffered minor injuries, and one was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Police did not have information about which one was transported.

Police said they do not suspect criminality in this case.
