A woman involved in a dispute with her boyfriend Sunday night wound up striking his mother with her car, ending a chaotic Mother's Day in Islip with the girlfriend's arrest, police said.

Kristin DiPaola, 20, of Bay Shore, was arrested after the altercation at her boyfriend's home on Ferndale Boulevard at about 11 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

DiPaola, of 101 Baltimore St., was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree reckless endangerment. Police did not release the identities of the mother or son because they are victims of a crime.

Police said a friend of the boyfriend, identified as Robert Banker, 25, of Islip, also was arrested after he kicked the door of DiPaola's car. Banker was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Police said he also had two outstanding warrants.

The incident began with some sort of verbal dispute, police said. The dispute escalated to a point where DiPaola struck her boyfriend in the face, police said. DiPaola then attempted to flee the scene in her 2013 Hyundai Elantra, police said, and she struck her boyfriend's mother with the car.

Police said the mother did not require hospitalization.

DiPaola and Banker were scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.
