A 33-year-old Rockville Centre woman was killed early Monday when her car swerved off the westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway in North Bay Shore, State Police said.

Police identified the victim as Johanna Taveras.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by an EMT from Brentwood Ambulance.

The one-car accident occurred just east of Exit 42, the Fifth Avenue exit, on the Heckscher State Parkway extension of the parkway, at 4:22 a.m.

Police said the car, a 2001 Hyundai Sonata, left the roadway and struck a tree off the right shoulder.

The crash closed two lanes between Exit 43, Route 111, and Exit 42, for much of the morning rush hour, police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call 631-756-3300.
