Suffolk County police found Elizabeth Hernandez, 33, fatally stabbed inside her basement apartment on July 24, 2013.

Suffolk police said late Wednesday night they were investigating an apparent homicide, after a woman was found dead in her Shirley home earlier in the day.

The body of Elizabeth Hernandez, 33, of Auborn Avenue, was found by police about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a news release nearly 12 hours later.

Officials from the Suffolk Medical Examiners Office removed the body and are working to determine the cause of death, police said.

A police spokesman said officers had no further information. An officer in the homicide unit said he wasn't working on the case and couldn't comment.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
