Cops: Woman stole car, led cops on chase

A West Babylon woman who led troopers on a short car chase Sunday on Sunrise Highway in Westhampton before being pulled over allegedly had stolen the car earlier in the day, State Police said.

Jan Fenton, 31, of 800 Sunrise Hwy., was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, fleeing a police officer and several traffic violations after police arrested her Sunday, State Police said in a Monday news release.

Police said Fenton stole a gray Toyota Solara that was left running outside a Copiague pizzeria by the car's owner at about 1 p.m.

At about 10:47 p.m., troopers approached the Toyota, which was parked on an access road to a sump, on eastbound Sunrise Highway near County Road 31. The car sped off, and troopers followed it onto Sunrise Highway.

The driver took off erratically before losing control on the shoulder of the highway, police said.

Both the driver, Fenton, and a male passenger, Anthony Troiano, were arrested, police said.

Troiano is charged with criminal mischief for damaging the car's windshield, police said.
