Cops: Would-be bank robber flees empty-handed
Suffolk County detectives are searching for a man who attempted to rob a Central Islip bank Friday afternoon, but left without the cash.
The suspect entered the Bank of America, at 185 Wheeler Rd., at 1:45 p.m. and approached two separate tellers, verbally demanding money, Suffolk police said.
The man, however, fled the scene without taking any cash, police said. He was last seen on foot running southbound on Wheeler Road.
Suffolk police did not disclose why the teller failed to turn over the money but said the robbery attempt is not connected to other area bank robberies.
Police describe the suspect as in his mid 30s, with a medium build and about 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11. He was seen wearing a blue jacket with a hood.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
