Cops: Wrong-way driver faces DWI charge
A Manorville woman was drunk when she drove the wrong way early Friday on a short stretch of Montauk Highway in Patchogue, Suffolk County police said.
Brittny Fanning, 23, drove her 2006 Ford Escape east in the westbound lane of Montauk Highway about 500 to 600 feet at about 2:59 a.m., police said.
Fanning was near the intersection of the highway and South Ocean Avenue when Officer Roger Kleber of Suffolk County's Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team saw her cross over the double-yellow line, police said.
Fanning also was in possession of narcotics, police said.
She is charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. She was arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip, pleaded not guilty, was released and is due back in court March 16.
