A Coram man driving a pickup truck was killed Sunday morning when the vehicle hit a tree on County Road 83 in Mount Sinai, police said.

Ralph Maiello, 55, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet pickup southbound just after 9 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree just south of Mount Sinai-Coram Road, Suffolk police said.

Maiello was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The southbound side of CR 83 near Mount Sinai-Coram Road in Coram had been closed due to the crash.

The pickup truck was impounded for a safety check and detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call 631-854-8652.
