A car and a truck collided in Southampton on Tuesday afternoon, with parts of County Road 39 closed for more than five hours as the accident was being investigated, Southampton Town police said.

The car driver veered into the truck driver's lane shortly before 2 p.m., police said.

The car driver was airlifted with serious injuries to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

County Road 39 between North and Hill Station roads in Southampton reopened shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to police and the state Department of Transportation.
