A man died after crashing his vehicle into the median on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville on Friday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

The identity of the driver was not released.

Police said the 2:15 p.m. crash occurred when the driver lost control of a 2018 Chevy headed west and crashed into the median divider on the LIE near Exit 63, North Ocean Avenue.

The man died from his injuries at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, police said. The Chevy was impounded by police for a safety check.

The crash prompted police to close lanes near Exit 63 until shortly after 5 p.m., police said.
