A speeding driver crashed into a tree Tuesday night on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills, closing the eastbound highway for more than an hour, state police said.

The accident happened about 8:12 p.m. at Exit 41, Wolf Hill Road, police said, and a Suffolk County police helicopter took the woman to Stony Brook University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman was alert and told rescuers that she was driving too fast and lost control, police said.

The parkway was closed between Exits 41 and 42, Deer Park Avenue-Route 231. It reopened at 9:36 p.m., police said.
