A three-vehicle crash in Commack on Friday afternoon sent several people to the hospital and briefly shut down part of Jericho Turnpike, according to a spokesman for the Suffolk County Police Department.
The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. near the turnpike’s intersection with Valmont Avenue.
A 60-year-old man from Medford was turning left from Jericho Turnpike onto Valmont Avenue when his 2012 Jeep was struck by a 22-year-old West Babylon man driving east on the turnpike in a 2023 Hyundai, police said. Both those vehicles then crashed into a 2020 Toyota at the Valmont intersection.
Pictures from the scene show firefighters using a jack to prop up an SUV, which is facing a sedan with extensive damage to its front.
People in the Jeep and Hyundai suffered minor injuries, according to the police spokesman, who said they were all treated and released from the hospital the same day. The driver of the Toyota was not taken to the hospital.
The crash shut down part of Jericho Turnpike from Valmont Avenue to Wiltshire Drive for roughly 40 minutes as first responders cleared the crash.
