Driver killed in fiery 1-car crash in Smithtown

A male driver died in a fiery single-vehicle crash on East Main Street in Smithtown on Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
The motorist lost control of a 2006 Honda Civic while heading westbound at about 3:45 a.m. and crashed just west of Terry Road, police said. The vehicle overturned and caught fire, according to police.
The driver, whose identity investigators plan to confirm with an autopsy, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.
Authorities impounded the Honda for a safety check.
They are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact Fourth Squad detectives at 631-854-8451.
