A Suffolk County police officer responding to a 911 call reporting a shooting in Huntington Sunday was involved in a crash that sent both the officer and an 82-year-old woman to the hospital, police said.

The officer, whose identity was not released, was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The woman, whose identity also was not released, was admitted to Huntington Hospital with what police called "neck and rib pain." Her injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of First Avenue and Pulaski Road in Huntington Station not long after the shooting was reported.

The shooting, which left three men wounded, occurred at about 3:15 p.m., police said.

The officer was traveling south on First Avenue in a marked sector car and had his lights and siren activated at the time of the crash, police said.

Police said the woman, driving a 2007 Chevy sedan, was headed west on Pulaski.

Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available Monday. The crash is under investigation.
