Patrick Chestnut, 32, of Fairfield, Ohio, was driving a 2014 Mazda eastbound on Nesconset Highway around 12:15 p.m., according to the release. Chestnut tried to make a turn at Route 111 and the Mazda crashed head-on with the Sheehans’ 2017 Honda traveling westbound on the highway.
Chestnut and his passenger Karma Spear, 31, of Bay Shore, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.
