A Dix Hills man was killed Saturday morning when his Jeep collided with a tractor-trailer that was backing into a parking lot on Spagnoli Road in Melville, Suffolk County police said.

Nicholas Daccolti, 51, of Deer Park Road, was driving west on Spagnoli Road about 4:05 a.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by Robert Ravener, 57, of North Massapequa, backed up and partially blocked the westbound lanes, police said.

The crash occurred near the intersection with Hub Drive.

A physician's assistant with the Suffolk County medical examiner's office pronounced Daccolti dead at the scene. Ravener was not injured, police said.

The investigation was ongoing and police asked that anyone with information about the crash call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
