Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst is expected to be shut down for most of Thursday night after a vehicle slammed into two utility poles, Suffolk police said.

The poles snapped when a sport utility vehicle hit them about 4:10 p.m., sending power cables and part of the wiring equipment across the roadway, authorities said.

Power to the area was cut off after the crash, between South Fourth and South Fifth streets, police said.

The driver, a 25-year-old Babylon man, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Police are investigating, but do not believe any crime was involved.

Montauk Highway was closed in both directions between South Broadway and South Seventh Street.
