Sunrise Highway reopens after crash, motorcyclist charged with DWI, cops say

Sunrise Highway near exit 57 in Shirley has reopened after a motorcycle crash, Suffolk County police said, and a West Babylon man injured in the crash has been charged with driving while intoxicated.
Police said John Hertel, 56, was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson near William Floyd Parkway, when he rear-ended a Nissan Altima at 3:05 p.m.
Hertel was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was charged for driving while intoxicated, police said, adding he will be arraigned at a later date.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, a male, was not injured, police said. Sunrise Highway reopened at 5:50 p.m.
