Man ejected from car, critically hurt after wrong-way crash in West Islip

Three people were hurt, one critically, in a wrong-way crash in West Islip on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.

A 40-year-old Central Islip man was driving a 2014 Audi west on the eastbound side of the Sunrise Highway service road at Malts Avenue around 9:35 p.m. when the vehicle crashed head-on with a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 

The man was ejected from the Audi, police said. He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he is in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 43-year-old man from East Northport, was taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

A passenger in the Jeep, a 32-year-old East Northport woman, was taken to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for routine safety checks.
