Curtis Trent Jr., 25, of Riverhead, was arrested Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, and charged with violations including reckless driving after town police said he fled a traffic stop in Riverhead and hit two other vehicles, injuring both drivers.

A 25-year-old Riverhead man was arrested and charged with numerous vehicle and traffic violations Friday after town police said he failed to pull over and struck two other vehicles, injuring the drivers.

Riverhead police said Saturday that the suspect, Curtis Trent Jr., had bail set at $5,000 cash during his arraignment.

The incident unfolded about 4:45 p.m. Friday when a Riverhead police officer tried to pull Trent over for a motor vehicle and traffic stop on Union Avenue, according to a police report.

Trent allegedly fled and hit two other vehicles at Northville Turnpike and Elton Street. He fled the scene on foot but was apprehended a short distance away, police said.

Charges against the suspect include leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving. Trent was arraigned at the Riverhead Police Department and taken to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead.

The other drivers, Maria Sanchez, 36, of Westhampton Beach, and Richard Weiss, 51, of Middle Island, were treated at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Manorville for injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.

The intersection was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the accident with the assistance of New York State Police.
