A Bay Shore woman charged with stealing about $500,000 from an elderly man after gaining his trust will be arraigned Monday, the Suffolk district attorney's office said.

Lisa Ferkovich was arrested on Nov. 27 in front of her home on Brandish Lane. She was charged with third-degree grand larceny as a hate crime, District Attorney Thomas Spota said in a statement.

Spota said Ferkovich befriended the 83-year-old North Babylon man in July after meeting him in a supermarket.

"Our investigation found evidence she drained his bank accounts, accessed his mutual fund holdings, and rolled up $35,000 in bills using his credit cards," he said.

Ferkovich will be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip, where the indictment will be unsealed, the Spota's office said.

Ferkovich, 47, also known as Ruby Mitchell, Lisa Sideris and Lisa Brown, is being held without bail, authorities said.

She is also charged with identity theft in a separate case but a similar crime -- bilking another man in his 80s by using his identity to buy three automobiles, including a new Mercedes, Spota's office said.

Ferkovich was free on bond in that case when she met the North Babylon man, the district attorney said.

"Using different identities, she has scammed as many as four elderly men, possibly more, over the past two years in the New York metropolitan area, including New York County," Spota said.

Further details were not immediately available.
