A 33-year-old man who, prosecutors said, was operating "a steroid lab" out of his Centereach apartment was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on charges of possessing and intending to sell anabolic steroids.

A statement from the office of Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota said that Lucas Strada, of 52 Horseblock Rd., faced charges when a grand jury indictment is unsealed before Judge Stephen Braslow.

Spota said Strada, who has been held on $250,000 bail, was arrested after the execution of a search warrant on July 30, when searches of his home and vehicle led to "the discovery of mass quantities of anabolic steroids, which we believe the defendant manufactured for resale."

Lab equipment, packaging materials, steroids, a loaded Rock Island .45-caliber handgun and $60,000 in cash also were discovered in the searches, Spota said in his statement.

"We have mounting evidence," Spota said, "the defendant sold anabolic steroids locally and through online transactions."
