A Shirley man was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after a single-car crash killed his passenger in Brentwood early Saturday, police said.
Oscar Rivera, 27, was driving a 2000 Lincoln south on Grand Boulevard when he crossed over Noble Street, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on Grand Boulevard about 5:50 a.m., police said.
The vehicle's passenger, David N. Gonzalez, 29, of Brentwood was transported by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Rivera suffered serious injuries and was also transported to Southside Hospital, according to police.
Police could not immediately say when Rivera would be arraigned.
Rivera's vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.
