A sport utility vehicle struck and killed a man walking across Commack Road in Deer Park on Christmas Eve, Suffolk County police said.

Police said in a news release that the man, whom they have not yet identified, was crossing south of Marcus Boulevard about 11 p.m. when a southbound 2015 GMC Terrain driven by Daniel Saccoccio, 31, of Deer Park, hit him.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

Police did not charge Saccoccio, but they impounded the vehicle for a safety check.

Anyone with information is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
