A man was found with two gunshots to his back at 11:34 p.m. Friday on Maple Avenue, Riverhead police said.

Police said the victim, Deivi Perez, 19, of Riverhead, told officers that two unidentified men shot him as he was walking home on East Avenue, a block southwest of Maple.

Perez was rushed by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for surgery, where he remained early Saturday.

Police did not immediately have additional details, but an investigation was ongoing.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call 631-727-4500, ext. 610.
