Real-estate broker Steve Rossetti seeks the Democratic nomination for lame-duck Suffolk Legis. Jon Cooper's 18th District seat, but says he's fiscally "on the same page" as GOP County Executive Steve Levy.

Rossetti, 50, of Lloyd Harbor, secretary of the county Industrial Development Agency, attended Levy's annual address, while most lawmakers did not. His long-standing ties with Levy have "complicated things," Rossetti conceded. "But at the end of the day, I hope people can see past that and see . . . I am able to work people from all sides and get things done."

Backed by Cooper, Rossetti says he's raised $60,000. Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer has met with him but made no commitment. Schaffer saw no problem with Rossetti attending Levy's speech, but his ties with Levy, Schaffer said, will be "a subject of a future conversation." - Rick Brand
