Demonstrations, seal release at Coast Guard open house
Tour a Coast Guard fast response boat. Go aboard a Coast Guard 47-foot motor life boat. See a buoy being released and retrieved.
The activities are part of an open house Saturday at the Coast Guard's Shinnecock Station, 100 Foster Ave. in Hampton Bays.
The open house, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., also features a tour of the station's communications and aids-to-navigation centers and free seminars by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.
Coast Guard personnel also offer boating safety demonstrations and free vessel safety inspections. Approaching boaters should contact Coast Guard Station Shinnecock on VHF 22 before entering the local boat basin.
In addition to the open house, the Riverhead Marine Foundation is expected to release a seal pup from the station at 10:30 a.m.
