A bar patron was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly threw a beer bottle at another man's face, causing injuries, Riverhead town police said.

Diego Abrego, 23, of Riverhead, was charged with second-degree assault for allegedly throwing the bottle at Pablo Castro, 27, also of Riverhead, at the Royal Dorado Bar, 1005 E. Main St., about 1 a.m., police said.

Castro was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and treated for his injuries, which police did not specify. Abrego was treated there for a small laceration to the top of his head, police said.

Authorities did not say how Abrego got the laceration. He was later arrested and taken to Riverhead Police headquarters. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer or had gone before a judge Saturday.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the assault to call their detective division at 631-727-4500, ext. 328.
