A house fire in Dix Hills Sunday morning destroyed an attached garage, but left just smoke damage to the home, fire officials said.

Volunteer firefighters from the Dix Hills Fire Department were dispatched at about 9:50 a.m. to a house on Dulce Lane, fire officials said.

The first arriving firefighters saw smoke and "quickly located the fire in an attached garage," said Steve Silverman, a spokesman for the Dix Hills Fire Department.

The male homeowner was inside the home at the time of the fire but got out with his dog before firefighters arrived, Silverman said. No injuries were reported.

The blaze was brought under control in a half-hour and about 50 firefighters and rescue personnel responded, including the Greenlawn and Deer Park fire departments.

Fire damage was contained to the garage and its contents and the home sustained smoke damage, said Silverman.

The Melville Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad provided standby coverage for Dix Hills during the alarm.
