A woman killed in an early morning house fire in Dix Hills on Tuesday, which left six others injured, including five emergency responders, has been identified as Kristen Dugan, 52, a resident of the home, Suffolk County police said.
The fire, which investigators said was non-criminal in nature, was reported at 3:28 a.m. on Tuesday at the home on Talisman Drive, authorities said.
First responders were met at the scene by Barbara Dugan, 85, who told them her daughter lived in a basement apartment.
Emergency crews attempted to reach the apartment but were unsuccessful, driven back by the fire, police said.
Kristen Dugan was later found dead in the basement unit, police said. The fire was brought under control within about an hour.
Barbara Dugan was transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Three police officers were also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and released.
In addition, two Dix Hills firefighters were taken to Huntington Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Dix Hills Fire Department spokesperson Drew Silverman said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday.
