One person was pronounced dead after a Dix Hills house fire that started Thursday evening, Suffolk police said.

A tenant arrived at his Lauren Avenue home about 4:55 p.m. and found his landlord, Kenneth Horadnitsky, in a house filled with smoke, police said.

The tenant pulled Horadnitsky out of the burning home and called police, Suffolk officials said.

Horadnitsky, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from county medical examiner's office.

The Dix Hills and Commack fire departments had the blaze under control by 5:27 p.m., said a Suffolk County fire communications official.

Arson and homicide detectives are investigating, police said.

No other details were available, police said.
