Car plunges from parking lot onto dock in Port Jefferson; driver OK, police say

A woman was injured after her car went over a divider and crashed onto a floating dock in the Port Jefferson Marina Sunday evening, Suffolk police said.

At around 6:42 p.m., the driver of a 2008 Jeep accelerated too hard in a marina parking spot and crashed through a divider, landing on a floating dock.

Police did not identify the woman. They said she was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Town officials said Suffolk County police and Port Jefferson firefighters rescued the driver. Town workers called Rapid Recovery Towing to lift the Jeep off the dock using a 65-ton rotator truck, a four point wheel strap and a "spreader bar," Brookhaven Town officials said.

The Jeep was lifted just before noon on Monday.

"We are glad the driver was not hurt seriously," Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico said in a statement. "This was an unusual accident and we are making immediate repairs to ensure continued safety at the Marina."
