Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire Friday night in Greenlawn, officials said.

The fire was reported about 8:20 p.m. at a home on Dohne Court, said Steve Silverman of the Town of Huntington Fire Chiefs Council.

During a search of the home, Greenlawn Fire Lt. Angelo Santomauro and firefighter John Modzelewski located a golden retriever mix named Cooper in the basement and carried it to safety, Silverman said. The dog was uninjured.

It was not clear whether anyone else was home at the time of the fire; and a call to a Greenlawn fire official was not immediately returned.

A team of 80 firefighters using 10 trucks extinguished the blaze in about 45 minutes, Silverman said. Firefighters contained the fire to the garage and an attic.

The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the blaze.
