DOT: Eastbound Sunrise reopens in Hamptons after truck hits cars

All eastbound lanes of a section of Sunrise Highway were reopened Tuesday evening, hours after a tractor trailer plowed into three vehicles stopped in traffic, leaving two drivers injured, officials said.
The accident happened just east of Exit 62 in Eastport at about 1 p.m. after a dump truck blew a tire and wound up in the woods, forcing the closure of the right lane.
The tractor trailer, owned and operated by Noah M. Kuloglu, 54, of East Northport, “was approaching the stopped traffic due to the lane closure, but failed to adequately reduce his speed,” State Police said.
The tractor trailer struck three vehicles, went off the highway and came to rest in the woods on the right shoulder, police said.
The drivers of two of the passenger vehicles struck by the tractor trailer were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. The dump truck driver also was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The shutdown happened between Exit 62 and Exit 63, in Westhampton, the state Transportation Department said on its website.
