Motorists are urged to avoid driving the Long Island Expressway near exits 70 and 71 in Manorville this weekend because of scheduled repairs to a damaged bridge, the state Department of Transportation said.

Two eastbound and two westbound lanes on the LIE will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting, the state agency said.

The closure is between County Road 111/Captain Daniel Roe Highway, Exit 70, and Edwards Avenue/NY Route 24, Exit 71.

A single travel lane will be open in both directions, but alternate routes are advised, the agency said.

The closures are needed to perform major repairs of the Halsey Manor Road Bridge over the LIE that was struck last May by a truck, the agency said.
