Driver, 72, killed in Yaphank crash

A Medford man was killed shortly after midday Monday when a landscaping truck collided with his passenger car on Horseblock Road in Yaphank, Suffolk County police said.
John Stewart, 72, was killed when his 2003 Saturn collided with a 2001 Chevrolet truck as he was driving out of a Hess gas station parking lot near Old Dock Road, police said.
The driver of the truck, Roberto Reyes, 31, of Central Islip, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
The accident occurred at 12:05 p.m. at an intersection on Horseblock Road where Old Dock Road on the north meets Pinehurst Drive on the south.
Detectives asked anyone with information on the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
