Driver, 80, dies after parkway crash in N. Amityville

The driver of a Chevy Impala was seriously injured in a one-car accident just after 10 a.m. Tuesday on the Southern State Parkway in North Amityville. The car went off the road and hit a tree head-on, trapping the driver. The East Farmingdale fire department responded to the scene and used multiple extrication tools to free the driver, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. An 80-year-old man died Tuesday morning after the car he was driving west on the Southern State Parkway in North Amityville left the roadway and crashed into a tree, state police said.
Frank Vencek of Worcester, N.Y., was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m., police said.
Vencek was driving alone in his vehicle near exit 33 about 10:10 a.m., police said, when it moved on to the shoulder of the road and traveled more than 150 feet before hitting the tree, police said.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation by state police.
