An 80-year-old Ridge woman is dead after her car struck a utility pole Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Jean Deguglielmis was traveling east on Whiskey Road when her vehicle left the roadway and struck the pole about 4:50 p.m., police said. Deguglielmis was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead.

The 2001 Chevrolet Impala she was driving has been impounded for a safety check, police said.
