A male driver was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident after he struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Howells Road and Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore on Thursday night, police said.

The male pedestrian was hit about 6 p.m., Suffolk police said. Other charges against the driver were pending.

The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with nonlife threatening injuries.

The name of the driver and other information were not immediately available.
