A Shirley man found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle early Monday in Medford is facing a drunken-driving charge, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department said.

A motorist saw Delvin Lyons, 35, asleep in the driver's seat of his car then flagged down a deputy, sheriffs said.

The trooper approached the standing vehicle at 1:10 a.m. on the eastbound south service road of the Long Island Expressway at the Route 112 intersection, and found that the car was in drive and the motor was running, sheriffs said.

Lyons provided a breath analyzer reading of 0.09 percent, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

He is being held on bail of $1,000 cash or $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.

In another case Sunday evening, a Kings Park woman was arrested on a drunken-driving charge after a deputy stopped her about 8:30 p.m. for an unsafe lane change, also on the eastbound south service road, this time near the William Floyd Parkway exit, sheriffs said.

Deborah Chestnut, 60, provided a breath analyzer reading of 0.19 percent, more than twice the legal limit, sheriffs said.

Chestnut was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 22.
